Elon Musk Turns DOGE Office into His Bedroom: A Bold Move to Reshape Government Efficiency

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and X, has once again shocked the world with his extreme commitment to work, this time by turning the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) office in Washington, D.C., into his personal living quarters. Musk’s dedication, a hallmark of his leadership style, is part of a larger strategy to take control of the federal government’s operations and enforce sweeping changes.

Located in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building just steps from the White House, the DOGE headquarters now doubles as Musk’s temporary residence. According to reports by WIRED, Musk even had the option to stay in the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House but chose to remain at DOGE. The decision reportedly stemmed from Musk’s desire to avoid a formal connection with President Donald Trump’s team, especially after Chief of Staff Susie Wiles declined his request for office space in the West Wing.

This move is only the latest in Musk’s extreme approach to work. In Tesla’s early years, he famously slept on the factory floor during intense production periods, claiming it showcased his dedication and commitment. Musk has often spoken about the importance of leaders being visible to their teams, saying, “If the team thinks their leader is off somewhere having a good time, drinking Mai Tais on a tropical island… they knew I was there, and that made a huge difference.”

Under Musk’s leadership, DOGE has become a powerhouse of cost-cutting and efficiency measures. One of the most notable initiatives has been reducing federal government spending, saving taxpayers approximately $1 billion daily by halting unnecessary hiring and slashing funding for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. This has included removing websites and departments related to DEI, such as the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s Chief Diversity Officers Executive Council.

In addition to these significant cuts, DOGE is tackling the inefficiencies in the production of pennies, which are now costing taxpayers more than their face value. In 2023, the cost of manufacturing pennies exceeded $179 million, a loss that Musk and his team are now actively working to address, potentially ending penny production altogether.

However, Musk’s unconventional leadership style has attracted criticism. Concerns about toxic workplace culture and employee burnout have surfaced, particularly after Musk’s 2018 comment about sleeping on the Tesla factory floor because he had “no time to go home and shower.” His advocacy for employees to do the same has led to reports of workers sacrificing their personal well-being to meet deadlines.

Despite the controversy surrounding his leadership methods, Musk’s efforts at DOGE have already made a significant impact on government operations, earning both admiration and criticism for his no-nonsense approach to reform.
